Invasion and trespass
Marching into someone else's country without asking gets noticed.
Your forces inside an enemy's country are an invasion. Inside a neutral country without a passage permit, they are trespassing.
Trespassing slowly wears down the owner's patience. Stay too long and they may declare war. Ask for a passage permit on the Diplomacy screen to cross in peace.
Friends and allies let your forces pass freely.
