Every leader is friendly, neutral or hostile towards you, and that can change.
How a leader feels about you has two parts. Trust is earned through deeds: helping when asked, fighting side by side, keeping your word. It grows slowly and lasts.
Goodwill comes from gifts and good manners. It helps at once, but fades within days. Money cannot buy lasting friendship.
Some leaders simply do not get along with your style, and gifts alone will never make them close friends.
