Time and speed

Time flows all the time. At normal speed a minute of game time passes every second. Speed the clock up when nothing much is happening, and pause it whenever you need to think.

While paused you can still look around, plan and give orders. The clock also stops while the game menu is open and while you are on a call with another leader.

When a lot happens at once, the game may slow down for a moment to keep up. The speed button blinks until it can go back to the speed you picked.
